For people with a low income and few assets, a DRO could be an alternative to bankruptcy.

With a Debt Relief Order:

  • Payments on your unsecured debts will be frozen for 12 months
  • If your situation doesn’t get better, your debts will be written off
  • You’ll only have to pay a £90 fee, compared to £705 with bankruptcy
  • If your circumstances change, you could be subject to full bankruptcy
  • Details of your DRO will be added to a public register
