It’s easy to get caught up in the emotion and drama of a World Cup. Everyone has an opinion and it’s impossible to be unbiased when your own team is competing. But reputations, hype and form count for little when the referee blows the whistle. It’s 11 men against 11 men in a test of skill, preparation and nerve. Anyone can make a name for themselves. Yet looking at the economics of the countries at this year’s World Cup, it becomes clear that off the pitch, things are far from equal.
